Program Description

Nowadays, a large number of objects around us include electronics and software operating independently: automobiles, telephones, household appliances, etc. These “embedded systems” must be miniaturized, energy efficient, and connected to exchange data. This major for IoT (Internet of Things) focuses on the study and design of computer systems integrated into connected devices and smart objects. These systems are designed to collect, process and exchange data with other devices, enabling advanced connectivity and automation in various areas such as home automation, connected health, smart cities, industry 4.0, etc. To develop them, the engineer must have advanced scientific knowledge in electronics and IT with a culture of sobriety for sustainable and eco-responsible products.

Possible Options

In the final year, the student can choose two options from: Data Scientist & Big Data, 3D Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality, Cybersecurity, Robotics, Research, Project Portfolio Management, Business Unit Manager, Innovation, Entrepreneurship. The list of options offered depends on the campus.

Five years to prepare you for the profession of engineer. In the preparatory cycle, you start with a year common to the four areas of CESI and gradually you move towards choosing your major in the 3rd year. You will be able to provide innovative solutions to the problems encountered. To specialize and stand out, opt for a 5th year option. Accredited by the Commission for Engineering Qualifications (CTI), this Program benefits from international recognition.

Corporate Missions

Preparatory cycle: Local program development / Design of simple electronic circuits based on microprocessors / Testing of network equipment / Solving hardware or software operating problems Engineering course: Design of mobile applications, secure networks / Embedded hardware and software development / Development and testing of communication protocols and encryption algorithms / Consumption optimization of embedded hardware

What he will be able to do in business

In the preparatory cycle, the student will carry out the missions traditionally entrusted to a senior technician: development of simple algorithms, design and development of electronic assemblies, embedded or non-embedded computer programs, carrying out functional validation tests, etc.

In the engineering course, the student progresses from the role of technician to that of engineer:

  • Confirmed technician at the end of the 1st year: he masters the technical aspects of his missions and knows how to apply them independently
  • Assistant engineer at the end of the 2nd year: he can deal with problems requiring new solutions, and supervise teams in the field
  • Junior engineer at the end of the cycle: he is autonomous in dealing with entire subjects, integrating technical, economic, organizational and human dimensions.

The Evaluation System

In the preparatory cycle as in the engineering course, the evaluation system is based on continuous monitoring. The lessons are distributed in different Teaching Units; each unit corresponds to a certain number of ECTS credits. One year corresponds to 60 credits. Students must have validated all their teaching units and obtained their ECTS credits to move on to the next year.

The conditions for obtaining the diploma are:

  • Validate all the Teaching Units, therefore having acquired 300 credits over the five years of training
  • Obtain a B2 level certification in English
  • Carry out mobility abroad for a period of 20 weeks

The CESI engineering course is a program involving a 2-year preparatory cycle followed by a 3-year course of study on campus which leads to an engineering diploma (level 7 Master).

About the School

Excellence outside the box

CESI - École d'Ingénieurs founded in 1958 by industrial companies, today has 28,000 students across 25 campuses throughout France, fitted with state-of-the-art educational equipment, 106,000 alumni, 8,000 partner companies, and 130 partnerships with universities around the world.

CESI has developed a unique model within higher education. Our Graduate School of Engineering assists its students in areas such as

  • Industry & Innovation
  • IT and Software Engineering/Digital Technology
  • Quality, Safety, Environment and Sustainable Development
  • Civil Engineering and Construction

through its training offer comprising the following programs: ‘Grande École’ Program, Bachelor’s Degree, Professional Master’s Degree, Executive Post-Graduate Programs®, Executive Programs, Ph.D. Program and Programs for International Students. Convinced of the need to combine science & technology with social sciences, CESI also stands out due to its programs in Human Resources and Management.

Choosing CESI’s International Programs

As an international, French-speaking, and English-speaking student, you have the opportunity to study different CESI programs in France, depending on your education level, ranging from undergraduate degrees to post-graduate degrees, or equivalent degrees obtained abroad:

  • ‘Grande École’ Program (Master’s Degree)
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science
  • Executive Post-Graduate Programs®

Some of our programs offer a so-called preparatory year, enabling you to improve your academic or language skills and, thus, making it easier for you to continue your studies: Engineering Degree Pathway.

Because welcoming you is one of CESI’s commitments, our teams will support you in preparing for your arrival and taking care of all administrative procedures, whatever program you choose.

The international aspect is at the heart of our strategic and educational plan. What’s the goal? To offer you a truly multicultural experience, an opportunity to broaden your horizons, and a window to the job market in France and abroad. All CESI training programs meet European and international standards, particularly by splitting the academic year into semesters or delivering ECTS credits. Moreover, CESI holds the ERASMUS+ charter and works with many international players such as Campus France or the CDIO Initiative.
