Program Description

Driven by compassion and mercy, social workers specialize in confronting oppression and inequality. Gain the training to properly aid those that your heart already long to help, and develop the hard and soft leadership skills needed to effectively lead a team of individuals who share your convictions.

Everyone needs a social worker. Whether they offer "counseling" in hospitals, find loving homes for children, work in drug-addicted communities, or provide basic needs through disaster relief, social workers are always offering help to individuals when they need it most. Social workers intervene in the lives of those in need by counseling individuals, locating resources, facilitating groups with common needs, and promoting change within organizations and communities. A BSW allows you to help others in a way that is productive, professional, and ethical.

Earning a BSW concurrently with an MS in Nonprofit Leadership will set you apart in the job market and allow for more opportunities for growth in your career. You’ll be equipped with resources and training in financial management, fundraising, decision making, and organizational effectiveness so you can lead nonprofits and help them expand their reach and operate at their maximum potential.

How it Works:

This program condenses six years of study (four-year bachelor’s + two-year master’s) into just five years by starting master-level courses as early as your junior year. By completing both degrees together, you will also continue to receive your undergraduate scholarships and financial aid for all five years of study, which will save you thousands of dollars.

About the School

Motivated by the love and justice of Jesus Christ, graduates of Cairn’s social work programs intervene in the lives of those in need—counseling individuals, locating resources, facilitating groups, and promoting change within organizations and communities.

The world needs spiritually and professionally qualified individuals, characterized by grace and compassion, who provide competent interventions that change lives. For students interested in helping others, Cairn’s social work programs are essential preparation for both graduate study and employment in social services.

Historically rooted in Christianity, social work pursues the well-being of individuals, families, groups, and communities. Determined through a relationship with those served, interventions include counseling, resource acquisition, policy development, community organization, advocacy, research, and education. In an interdisciplinary professional and academic field, social work applies the theories of psychology, economics, science, and philosophy to meet people’s physical, spiritual, and emotional needs.
