Curator practice
MA Curator Practice is a study for professional curators. In addition to the MA program, Curator Practice collaborates with various partners to arrange public seminars, lectures and other types of events that address curator practice in an expanded cultural field.
MA Curator Practice is a two-year seminar-based education aimed at professional curators who work as independent curators or at institutions. There are admissions every other year, and we also want applications from other professional actors from the art field with practices that are strongly connected to the curatorial (such as artist-curators, communicators, writers and others), and applications from professionals from adjacent cultural fields (theater, film, literature, music, etc.) who wish to reflect on and compare their knowledge and practice.
The MA group of ten candidates consists of professionals who have a strong personal drive for their project and a great interest in sharing their knowledge and ideas with the others in the group. Candidates should be eager to examine and ask questions about their surroundings and the professional contexts in which they work, in order to contribute to a common discussion forum.
During the studies, the MA candidates will develop, produce and contextualise an individual project in a public context, where they are responsible for ensuring the necessary collaborations to achieve this - with artists and professionals, funding sources, art institutions and others. Emphasis is placed on sharing knowledge and discussion within the group and in the public, therefore the Faculty supports a public seminar which is organized by the candidates in collaboration. There is no requirement to move to Bergen to take the MA Curator Practice.
