Program Description

The Podiatric Medicine Program is an intensive four-year program designed to provide you with a broad base of medical knowledge and extensive clinical experience. After graduation, students are encouraged to continue preparing for their careers by pursuing a residency program.

Caring and experienced professors who take a special interest in each student support the rigorous program. Barry University offers diversity unparalleled by any other school of podiatric medicine. Our program has the highest percentage of women and minority students of any podiatric medical school in the country. Barry University's Podiatric Medicine Program is eight of ten schools to maintain an accredited, independent, comprehensive, coeducational University. At Barry, we believe in giving you a quality foundation for your professional career. The University has a rich history in the medical and health care sciences.

The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine program's mission is to graduate skilled podiatric physicians qualified to enter residency training. This is accomplished by excellence in podiatric medical education, fostering life-long learning, expressing a commitment to social justice by serving the local and global community through quality patient care, and encouraging research and medical innovation that promotes the common good.

About the School

There are many reasons to pursue a career as a podiatric physician. It is a medical/surgical career that is both challenging and rewarding. With the ageing population and the global diabetes epidemic sweeping through the United States, there will be an increased demand for high-quality podiatric physicians in the future.

There are many reasons to seriously consider Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine as your studies' venue. Located in beautiful South Florida, our program is accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education. The Commission accredits our university on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Our international faculty team contains world-renowned experts in medical education, sports medicine, and wound care double- and triple-boarded.

Our students are taught in small groups and have the opportunity to pursue dual degree options. In fact, several have graduated with MBAs through our Andreas School of Business. There are multiple volunteer options available to our students in the diverse South Florida Community and many opportunities to research with faculty. In fact, many students have co-authored work in peer-reviewed journals. The Yucatan Crippled Children's Project provides an opportunity for our students to help disadvantaged communities abroad.

At Barry University's School of Podiatric Medicine, our clinical education experience is second to none. Students rotate through eight different hospitals and clinics throughout the Miami area. The latest technological innovations permeate the curriculum, from lecture capture technology and e-learning experiences in the first year to tracking student-patient interactions with "state of the art" technology in the clinics.
