Program Description

The Bachelor of Arts in Television and Digital Media opens a world of opportunity in today's complex and interrelated media fields. You will learn skills such as reporting, writing, anchoring, producing, directing, and editing for traditional media such as radio and television, and how these skills are applied within social media and the Internet.

You will take a balance of courses that instil a solid practical background in media writing, reporting, and production, while also gaining a fundamental understanding of media institutions, theories of communication, and media ethics.

We offer hands-on learning so that you gain practical knowledge of multiple aspects of producing media content both within a studio setting and in the field.

Aptitudes you can develop include anchoring a newscast, writing and producing content for the web, and radio and television reporting. Production techniques, editing, and television directing are also options within the Television and Digital Media program, as are media programming, media management, and communication law.

Within the program, you will have the opportunity to produce professional-quality content for various formats, including material for television, radio, and emerging Internet-based media.

Students in Television and Digital Media also complete an internship as part of their major. Internships provide students valuable experience in professional settings as they get ready to enter the job market.

Students graduating with a degree in television and digital media will have the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in rapidly emerging media platforms and the more traditional broadcast areas such as television, radio, and production.

Whatever your pursuit, the field of mass media will be a challenging and emerging career for years to come.

Positions within television and digital media include:

Broadcast News Reporter

Entertainment Reporter

Program Producer

Production Crew

Videographer

Video Editor

Audio Editor

Audio Program Producer/Host
