Program Description

The principal course of studies in the Graduate School of Theology leads to the Master of Arts degree in Theology and is available on campus in Denver or through distance education.

The Master of Arts degree is awarded upon the completion of twelve courses of three credit hours each and a comprehensive examination. Nine of the courses are required and three are electives. Students may choose to use one of their three electives to write a master’s thesis. Full-time students may complete the degree in four semesters over two academic years. Part-time students typically complete the program in four years.

Students are eligible to take the comprehensive examination after their fourth semester of full-time study or in their last semester of part-time study. Week-long intensive courses are typically offered in January and June. In addition, a summer term is offered to distance education students.

About the School

Founded in 2005 under Archbishop Chaput in Denver, CO by Dr. Tim Gray and Dr. Jonathan Reyes, the Augustine Institute has served the needs of the Lay faithful in the New Evangelization for 14 years.

We count some of the great champions of the last few decades in the Church among our graduates. Today, in addition to the Graduate School, the Augustine Institute has expanded to develop the best content to reach Catholics at all stages of their faith journey – from publishing books to developing parish programs, building strategic partnerships in the Church and technological platforms like FORMED.

In 2015 we merged with Lighthouse Catholic Media helping further our efforts of evangelization with a deep library of content, evangelists in parishes around the country and great partnerships with organizations like Ignatius Press. From this relationship, we developed the FORMED platform which integrates over 60 Catholic apostolates, reaches 900,000 lay Catholics and is in more than 5,000 parishes.

Our dedicated staff, helmed by our Executive Leadership Team, bring years of experience together to continue to drive the New Evangelization forward through orthodox teaching and innovative approaches.
