The Master of Divinity (MDiv) at Aquinas Institute of Theology provides a comprehensive theological education in the Roman Catholic tradition that will prepare you to meet an evolving ministerial environment and needs of our modern and global Church. In this academically rigorous and spiritually grounded program, you will learn to attend to our Church's needs with leadership honed to promote social change in service of the common good. The curriculum includes coursework in Biblical studies, historical, systematic, moral, and pastoral theology and preaching and liturgical leadership, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), and Supervised Practice of Ministry (SPM).
The MDiv program offers you the unique opportunity to study preaching with the Dominicans - the Order of Preachers - who directs the only Catholic Doctor of Ministry in Preaching program in the world. The 16 credits of supervised ministry experiences in the program will allow you to explore a wide variety of future ministries and help you build concrete skills, further preparing you for your ministerial future.
The MDiv degree offers three opportunities to engage in field education: Supervised Practice of Ministry (SPM) I and II and a Basic Unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at an ACPE Certified Institution. The field education curriculum at Aquinas Institute helps students develop a pastoral leadership style that is marked by effectiveness, service, integration, and a particular commitment to the ministry of the Word.
The MDiv degree prepares students to excel in a variety of ministerial positions. These include serving as a high school and college campus minister, a parish life coordinator, a religious education director, a hospital chaplain, and a theology teacher.
Impelled by the Catholic faith and the Dominican mission, Aquinas Institute of Theology educates men and women to teach, minister, and lead. At Aquinas Institute, your education extends far beyond our classrooms. Our mission is to create a community of scholars and a place of conversation. Not just a school of theology, you will find a credible, diverse faith community and academic village thriving here at Aquinas Institute.
Aquinas Institute of Theology offers various programs that strategically combine stimulating academic study, solid pastoral preparation, and practical field education with mentors in ministry and spiritual formation for lay students. As a result, our graduates are well prepared with excellent credentials to serve the Church's ineffective leadership.
The graduate certificate programs at Aquinas Institute offer students an opportunity to supplement their studies or give them a specific focus. Students acquire the expertise they need for targeted ministries in the Church through concentrated coursework and an accelerated format.
At Aquinas Institute, we deliberately create an academic environment and faith community that reflects the current leadership reality in our Church today. Our lay students can study alongside the Dominican friars in specific formation as vowed religious. Our Dominican student brothers can study alongside others from different backgrounds and walks of life. Our vision allows students to learn from each other in unique ways, teaching our lay students and Dominican brothers how to fulfil the mission of our Church as co-responsible leaders.
