Program Description

Next start of the programme: the academic year 2018- 2019 The English-taught bachelor’s degree in International Equine Business Management is a business administration degree in which the horse plays a central part. Business administration subjects make up 70% of the International Equine Business Management course. While horse-related subjects make up the remaining 30%.

The focus on equine management makes it easier for students to absorb information on the business administration subjects such as marketing and economics.

Writing business plans

One of the things that the students will learn during the study programme is how to write policy memos. The student must choose a current topic within the sector such as doping in equestrian sports or identification & registration, for example, and create a policy for it. Students will also learn how to compile business plans. Their business plans can be for an equestrian business but it need not be.

It is, however, important for students on the International Equine Business Management degree to have some prior experience in the equine sector. While you do not need to own your own horse in order to take this degree, we do consider it important for you to have some knowledge of the sector and to have some experience in working with horses.

Broad education

The benefit of the 70/30 split within the programme is that students receive a broad education which would prepare them for a variety of careers. Graduates find jobs both within and outside the sector. After completing the programme, they will have a solid degree that will be a valuable asset in the job market. Graduates can be found working in many different places. Some choose to start their own business. Others are hired for policy-making positions by town councils or get jobs at the Royal Dutch Equestrian Federation (KNHS), equestrian insurance companies, the Federation of Dutch Equestrian Centres (FNRS), the Rabobank or event organisations. Some graduates intentionally choose a career outside the sector and horses normally remain a hobby. You really can do anything you like with a degree in International Equine Business Management.
