Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) is a one-year degree for medical students and graduates. The degree is an essential part of your commitment to be at the forefront of medical research. The program embeds students in a research setting with Australian and internationally recognized researchers. This introduces them to research practice. Students learn skills relating to data analysis and the communication of scientific ideas in oral presentations and a written thesis. The Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) research program provides students with the opportunity to develop many essential attributes:

identify, retrieve, interpret and critically review the clinical and scientific literature in their field;

demonstrate advanced knowledge and technical skills in their chosen area of research;

develop, apply, integrate and generate clinical and scientific data using theoretical, experimental, and computational approaches;

communicate ideas and results effectively to diverse audiences and in a variety of written and oral formats;

demonstrate the ability to work independently to undertake a scientific literature review and to prepare presentations;

demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively to design, develop, implement and analyze research.

The Victorian Institute Of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) was established after a long and persistent campaign to create an organization dedicated to providing reliable forensic services of the highest quality to the Victorian justice system and community.

As such, it attracted a dedicated group of people. These original staff members, many of who are still working at the Victorian Institute Of Forensic Medicine, were eager to build an organization that is a trusted and innovative leader in global forensic medicine and science.

Throughout this 30 year history, we have continued to attract people who are dedicated to their particular fields of expertise and are committed to making a positive contribution to the community's health and safety.
