As a student in the region's only undergraduate criminal justice program, you'll learn how to critically reflect on the complexities of crime and society's response to it. Examine the ways in which police and correctional agencies operate and relate to the larger political and social world.
Your intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and oral and written communication skills will be challenged and developed.
As you complete courses in accounting, philosophy, political science, social work and sociology, you will achieve a global and comprehensive view of problems and potential solutions to criminal justice issues.
Students can join the award-winning Criminal Justice Student Association where they can compete in regional and national competitions.
UW-Superior's Criminal Justice Honor Society was awarded the Outstanding New Chapter in the United States by the National Criminal Justice Society, Alpha Phi Sigma.
Each student in the criminal justice program completes an internship.
Students have completed internships with the U.S. Border Patrol, the National Park Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as well as numerous police departments, public defender offices and juvenile detention centers.
More than just classrooms, labs, and big buildings, the University of Wisconsin-Superior has stood as a landmark in the City of Superior since 1893, impacting countless lives and careers along the way.
UW-Superior fosters intellectual growth and career preparation that emphasizes individual attention and embodies respect for diverse cultures and multiple voices. See the many ways we’re keeping that promise to our students, the community, and ourselves.
Throughout its history, the University of Wisconsin-Superior has committed to improving the lives and livelihoods of people in northwestern Wisconsin and beyond by seeking knowledge and spreading it to all who may benefit.
Such commitment is reflected in its mission statement:
"The University of Wisconsin-Superior fosters intellectual growth and career preparation within a liberal arts tradition that emphasizes individual attention, embodies respect for diverse cultures and multiple voices, and engages the community and region." (Approved by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, Feb. 6, 2015)
To accomplish these ends, the University will:
Provide students with a carefully articulated and comprehensive foundation in liberal studies as a base for all degree programs. Award associate and baccalaureate degrees in selected fields in education, arts, humanities, sciences, social sciences, business, and pre-professional programs. Offer graduate programs in areas associated with its undergraduate emphases and strengths. Extend its undergraduate and graduate resources beyond the boundaries of the campus through alternative delivery of programs. Expect scholarly activity, including research, scholarship, and creative endeavor, that supports its programs at the associate and baccalaureate degree levels, its selected graduate programs, and its special mission. Maintain an inclusive campus community that challenges students to develop their intellectual, personal, cultural, and social competencies. Engage in appropriate inter-institutional relationships and community partnerships to enhance educational and service opportunities. Foster, with the University of Wisconsin-Extension, the development of cooperative and general outreach programming and the integration of the Extension function with that of this institution.
The University of Wisconsin-Superior will be known as an institution that transforms learners, engages the community, and enhances the vitality of its region.
At the University of Wisconsin-Superior, we are committed to academic excellence, with an emphasis on student-focused learning, intellectual and personal development, continuous improvement, inclusivity, community partnerships, and global awareness.
We are committed to inclusive excellence; creating a space for all students regardless of background, economic status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, identity or spirituality to thrive and reach their fullest academic and personal potential. We provide individualized support for you throughout your educational journey.
