Beschreibung des Programms

From 28 June 2023, the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) will no longer be offered. Instead, we will be introducing our new course, the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education and Care). This course is set to open soon and will be available to start 23 October 2023. Sign up to be notified when the course becomes available.

Our Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) is designed for students looking to upgrade their previous early childhood qualification to become four-year qualified. From contemporary theories to practical experience, your study will equip you with advanced knowledge and skills to promote young children’s learning (birth to five years) in a flexible and supportive online learning environment.

Why study the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching) with UNE?

Career opportunities for early childhood graduates are increasing across metropolitan, regional, rural and remote areas of Australia, and specifically for four-year-degree-qualified early childhood teachers. If you are seeking to upgrade your previous early childhood qualification to become four-year qualified, this degree is for you.

At UNE, our early childhood education staff are well-placed to help you take advantage of these opportunities with world-class online teaching informed by research, consultancy, professional involvement and diverse backgrounds.

Now is the time to upgrade your early childhood qualifications, with some Australian states offering scholarships to support you on your learning journey.

This online degree not only provides you with a rewarding challenge, but also the creative, critical thinking and leadership skills that will future proof your career opportunities across multiple education and care sectors.

What makes our course different?

We focus on you being able to integrate your learned knowledge and skills into the real world of work. You’ll get to:

  • Learn from a research-active department who are involved in international professional communities. At UNE, we continue to develop our teaching approach to help you respond to global trends, challenges and opportunities.
  • Be guided in online small-class groups to develop your skills as an early childhood teacher who makes a difference in the lives of young people.
  • Build your skills with professional experience (practicum) of 30 or 60 days, depending on your admission basis.
  • Complete your practicum in-service in your own ACECQA-approved centre-based early childhood education workplace. Theory and practicum are strongly integrated and for this reason, as well as ACECQA course accreditation, previous work experience cannot be considered in lieu of practicum.
  • Upgrade with two entry points to this degree, depending on your previous qualifications. If you have an AQF Level 5 Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, and one year full-time post-Diploma work experience, UNE offers a generous two years of advanced standing in the four-year degree, so you only complete third and fourth-year units including 60 days of placement.
  • Become part of a broader conversation about the way early childhood theory, curriculum and pedagogy are developing.
  • Balance your study with other commitments by studying online. Students consistently award UNE 5-star ratings for Overall Experience and Student Support in The Good Universities Guide.

If you already have a three-year AQF Level 7 Bachelor-degree in Early Childhood, you will complete fourth-year units only, including 30 days of placement. Note that your previous qualifications must be approved by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).

At UNE, we understand transitioning from diploma to degree level studies can be challenging. That is why our initial enabling and standalone unit (EDEC310) equips you with foundational academic skills to support your progress throughout the course.

This degree is designed to meet the Australian Government's requirements for Early Childhood Education and to qualify graduates as four-year trained Early Childhood Teachers.

Study online

Most of our students choose to study online across three study periods with 24/7 tutor support* and fit study around work and family commitments. Uniquely, our online students are mostly over 30 and bring valuable experience with them. They form a community of adults juggling the same challenges and priorities and who bring their life and work experience together at UNE in order to become future-fit and better respond to a rapidly changing world.

24/7 tutor support includes: essay feedback (within 24 hours); live chat 24/7 for generic feedback on academic writing; and subject-specific help at a foundation or first-year level for subjects including mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, business, accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics. There are also a wide range of workshops, resources and courses available in academic skills support to assist you and help you to succeed.

Close interaction with teaching staff

With one of the lowest staff-to-student ratios among Australian universities, we give you the chance to interact more easily with your classmates and academic staff.

When you have this close contact with your teachers and peers, you can have in-depth discussions and ask questions more freely.

Smaller class sizes also mean that you are not just a number at UNE. One of the things international students like most about our university is that lecturers and academic staff know their names.

Flexible and distance study options

In addition to UNE's on-campus degrees, we also offer an extensive range of programs via the online mode.

We have an outstanding reputation for our commitment to distance education, and for setting standards for academic learning across the world.

UNE is Australia's longest continuous provider of online education. We have more than 17,000 online students. The flexibility offered by this mode of study allows you to arrange your study around work, family and other commitments.
