The Associate in Applied Science degree program in Nursing is a two-year Nursing curriculum that offers a supportive environment where students can grow as professionals and learn how to be Registered Nurses.
The Nursing curriculum is offered to men and women of all ages including recent high school graduates, mature adults, and licensed practical nurses. Graduates are prepared to accept beginning-level staff nursing positions in a variety of health facilities, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and extended care facilities.
The emphasis of the curriculum is on direct patient care in the preparation of students for the three interrelated roles which are defined for the graduates of the Associate Degree program as a provider of care, manager of care, and member within the discipline of nursing. Through the study of the Humanities, Natural and Social Sciences, and Nursing, students will gain an understanding of the value of individuals and their contributions to society.
Welcome to SUNY Sullivan, a comprehensive community college in the SUNY (State University of New York) system. We’re committed to helping you prepare for the future whether you’re getting your first job, transferring to a four-year college or university, or enhancing your personal and professional skills.
SUNY Sullivan provides programs and resources that educate, inspire, and empower students and the broader community. Through excellence in teaching and learning, we prepare students for a diverse and interconnected world, and we support positive economic and social change within Sullivan County and beyond. We model sustainable actions and promote socially, environmentally, and economically responsible citizenship through an overarching culture of excellence.
Our rural, 405-acre campus is nestled in the scenic Catskill Mountains less than two hours from New York City and Albany. It features a series of nine interconnected buildings plus the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse. Our campus buildings, including the Seelig Theatre located in the center of the complex, were designed by architectural firm Edward Durell Stone & Associates. Stone was famous for his work on the Museum of Modern Art and Radio City Music Hall in New York City, as well as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., among other public buildings and spaces. The Lazarus I. Levine Residence Hall and the EcoGreen Townhouses, both located just steps from campus, provide housing for nearly 400 students.
There were 1,628 students (781 full-time and 847 part-time) enrolled at the college, representing a demographically diverse group of individuals.
SUNY Sullivan is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education located at 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104. Telephone: (267) 284–5000.
Our curricula are approved by the State University of New York and the New York State Department of Education. All curricula are approved for the training of veterans under the pertinent public laws, and the college is approved by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, a bureau of the US Department of Homeland Security, for the attendance of foreign students. Accrediting and licensing documents can be reviewed online or through the Office of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.
Our business programs are nationally accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs for the offering of its business programs that culminate in the associate of science and associate of applied science degrees.
The Nursing curriculum is accredited by and registered with the New York State Education Department, Bureau of Professional Licensing.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at SUNY Sullivan. Our commitment to environmental and social responsibility informs everything from our campus operations to our curriculum.
We have been incorporating sustainable practices into our campus operations for many years, including a geothermal system to heat and cool our buildings and, more recently, installation of a 3 kW photovoltaic array and 2.5 kW wind turbine for hands-on renewable energy training. In 2015, SUNY Sullivan entered into a power purchase agreement with Sullivan Solar Garden, LLC which included the installation of a nine-acre, 2.15 MW (7056 PV module) solar farm on campus.
SUNY Sullivan students helped install an on-campus green roof which helped lower heating and cooling costs, and our students collect and compost over 3000 pounds of food scraps each year using an on-campus forced air compost area. We have added water bottle fill stations, low-flow plumbing and retrofitted our lighting and building automation systems to improve our energy efficiency, and installed exterior solar lighting to brighten a walking path leading to our baseball field. We have an organic community garden and built a straw bale garden shed— an initiative undertaken by our Honors Program and Green Building Maintenance and Management student. Some of the food grown in our garden is used by campus dining services, further advancing Chartwells’ many sustainability initiatives. We continually update our Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and implement strategies for waste reduction, and are updating our purchasing policies to better reflect our commitment to sustainability.
These and other efforts help reduce our energy costs, make our facilities more efficient, and minimize our impact on the environment. However, our commitment to sustainability doesn’t end there.
SUNY Sullivan is quickly becoming a leader in sustainability education. Our Green Building Maintenance and Management associate degree and Sustainability Studies courses are laying the foundation for a new “green-collar” workforce. Our Environmental Science program offers a science-based approach to tackling today’s complex ecological issues. We even have non-credit workshops and courses to expand your personal or professional sustainability-related skills.
