The Scientific Concentration provides a comprehensive computer science foundation that prepares students to design and implement software to solve computing problems. It covers applied topics but emphasizes a theoretical understanding of computer science, including the ability to use advanced mathematics to solve scientific problems and to work closely with other scientists to devise new ways of using computers.
Our mission is to provide a fundamental core that establishes the scientific foundation necessary for lifelong learning and graduate education, and an appropriate variety of educational and research experiences that provide the skills necessary for careers in the information technology industry and to sustain our recognized excellence in teaching and service to students and the community.
The Computer Science program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET. This program is designed to provide the foundation necessary for computer science graduates to succeed in the computing profession as well as in graduate school.
