Our BSc (Hons) Creative Technology degree course has been developed in response to the growing demand from creative industry employers for graduates that combine hands-on technical skills with creative and design flair.
Develop versatile digital technology skills that are in high demand by the creative industries; from the film, animation, and games, to virtual, augmented, and extended realities.
This course will enable you to develop a solid base of coding skills, and knowledge of how to use and blend creative technologies that will give you access to technically based creative roles.
You don’t need to know how to code at the beginning — Year 1, which is taught alongside BSc Creative Computing – is all about developing a sound base of technical skills that you will use in Years 2 and 3 as a springboard to your exploration of a range of creative technologies.
Your learning experience will be hands-on, developing projects to industry briefs, and exploring the potential for computer-based technology in a wide range of digital creative and design sectors.
Your tutors and the technicians that support your creative development will be experienced industry professionals, supporting the development of your creative and design flair while grounding you in the technical skills you need.
From Year 2 you will have access to our new Creative Technology Lab, allowing you to experiment with technologies such as VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), physical computing, projection mapping, lidar scanning, advanced laser cutting, and even soft robotics. You will use cutting-edge equipment such as motion sensors to develop unique forms of human-computer interaction and develop a working knowledge of the product development lifecycle.
Your final year research report and major projects will present significant opportunities for you to develop your very own creative technology specialism, supported by tutors, technicians, and specialist physical resources. These final projects will likely form the centrepiece of your graduate portfolio.
As with all courses at NUA, employability and entrepreneurship sessions integrated into your programme will allow you to develop excellent transferrable skills in teamwork, project management, communication, and problem-solving; and you will have opportunities to work with digital creative businesses in the university’s network.
