The other biggest trend in this 21st-century world is localism (the principle of specific areas) or regionalism (the principle of multiple areas) as opposed to globalism. The International Communications Department overcomes the barriers of cultural and political conflicts of countries with different languages, ethnic groups, religions, and social systems. They set their sights on “Multicultural Coexistence,” how to further coexistence and co-prosperity. The department studies the languages, society, and cultures of Europe and the cultural region of the EU centering around France. Furthermore, they work with international students studying Japanese and pursue the many possibilities and meaning of multicultural coexistence. Accordingly, the department aims to cultivate human resources who can be actively involved far and wide in international society. In order to achieve this objective, we have set the following goals.
Nagasaki has developed as a port city that has been open to the world for a long time. Especially, when Japan was isolated in the Edo Period, it acted as an important window to Western civilization. A lot of young people who have strong ambition gathered from all over Japan to study in Nagasaki foreign languages and foreign civilizations and to play an active part as pioneers in the modernization of Japan.
Now, our university in Nagasaki which is known as a historical international city “the world is a campus!” “Campus is the world!” as our motto, we are making efforts for Japanese students to study abroad and accepting study abroad students from overseas, it is our goal to be the new central place of international exchange in the 21st century.
