The MBA can be taken as a 1 year Full Time programme or as a Part Time course over 2 1/2 years. Both are aimed at the ambitious manager who wishes to gain a high quality MBA - one that will count in the real market place of employment. Both are AMBA accredited.
Our objective is to recruit managers who are:
- graduates or professionally qualified individuals who wish to develop to become senior managers of the future;
- managers with considerable experience who are looking at the future direction of their organisations and how things might need to change and adapt.
Forming a strategic view involves getting to grips with both the internal and external realities and uncertainties of an organisation’s situation. To meet this objective the MBA aims to develop some conceptual frameworks for thinking about business.
The aim of the programme is not simply to provide knowledge and skills that will assist in the analysis of situations in a disciplined way, but to enhance managerial judgement by helping to modify or reinforce what has been learnt from experience.
Developing judgement is often a behavioural issue that requires managers to change their attitudes - attitudes that have often been built up over a considerable period of time. Assisting managers to learn how to learn, by becoming conscious of the concepts they use, how they were formed and how they might be changed, is a major theme of the MBA.
Admission requirements
The MBA is a postgraduate, post experience, programme. As such the usual minimum entry requirements are a good honours degree in any subject from a UK University, or an equivalent academic or professional qualification. In addition all applicants must have significant organisational experience (usually minimum three years) and be in, or aspire to, a management position where they are facing, or beginning to experience, significant change. Given the experience requirements, it is expected that applicants will be at least 24 years old.
In exceptional cases, an applicant may be considered for admission without the specific academic qualifications if they have a substantial record of achievement and are able to demonstrate that they can benefit from and contribute to the programme. This will usually require strong employer support and these places are limited each year.
All applicants are required to complete the MBA application form. Interviews are compulsory for entry to the part-time MBA. The MBA interview enables the course team to assess the candidate’s suitability for the programme, and as a consequence, the candidate’s past experience, training and development and qualifications will be explored.
