Bachelor in Fotografie (BA - Hons)

Bachelor in Photography (BA - Hons) Anyone can press the button on a camera but we’ll encourage you to critically consider every aspect of this art form, from the composition to the audience to post-production. You’ll learn about the whole world of visual language and image making, from art direction to curating, and learn to use a wide range of traditional and digital formats and equipment. You will understand historical schools of photography as well as the ever-increasing cross-over between genres, such as documentary, fashion, fine-art and commercial photography. Most importantly, we’ll help you to identify your chosen path, and prepare you to begin building a successful career.

We’re looking for students with a range of interests and an open mind, who embrace broader practices around photography. This is important because photographers increasingly work across genres, from fine art to documentary picture-making.

The University has roots dating back to 1846 and the original Leeds School of Art. In 1842 the Leeds Mechanics Institute merged with the Literary Society, which led to the formation of The Leeds Government School Design four years later. In 1903 the School moved to Vernon Street which we still have today.

Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England, our students enjoy a small, close-knit community in a creative atmosphere where anything feels possible. We believe this is the best environment in which to grow as an artist, designer, musician or filmmaker.
