Beschreibung des Programms

This programme is one of the most highly regarded of its kind in Scotland. Covering press, broadcasting and online, it will equip you for a successful career in the media or related industries, such as advertising or public relations.

We take a broad-based approach to the study of broadcasting, the press, cinema and the internet, examining the role and impact of media in society and how media industries are organized. You'll learn to be reflective in your thinking, while working intelligently, responsibly and ethically.

Using the industry-standard equipment you will develop radio and TV production skills in our state-of-the-art multimedia suite along with creative advertising and public relations skills in real-world scenarios. We'll help you to learn to think creatively, analyze and evaluate content to produce innovative professional material across a range of platforms.

GCU takes full advantage of Glasgow's reputation as a media city. We have strong links with a wide range of media organizations, with fantastic opportunities for placements and experiences to network and enhance your future career prospects.

This programme offers Erasmus+ funded exchange and non-European exchange opportunities.

For new international students, orientation events start on 14 September 2018 . This extra time is specifically designed to assist new international students in settling into the UK and GCU prior to the start of general student induction and teaching.

There will be a whole host of fun and informative activities taking place during this period, including campus and city tours, as well as welcome events where you can meet other international students.

Exchange opportunities are open to full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of study (Year 3 direct entrant students must have completed one semester at GCU).

Assessment Methods

Our approach to the learning, teaching and assessment of our students is to adopt a wide range of methods. This ensures you gain the necessary knowledge and understanding of the media world, but also develops your personal, intellectual and transferable skills.

Key to our assessment strategies is that you will apply concepts and skills rather than simply write about them, fully cementing and demonstrating your understanding. For example, in the media practice modules some of the assessments will be based on you final product itself, be it a short film, a screenplay, a Public Relations campaign or an advertisement that is assessed. We fully embracing digital technology in our teaching and learning and you'll be getting hands-on experience. For example, in Media Analysis you may be working on our digital poetics exercises using frame grabs to critique audio-visual culture.

Teaching Methods

The different learning and teaching methods we use are all designed to ensure that the programme is both vocationally relevant and academically challenging. Our students are encouraged through individual modules and through the Personal Development Planning process to reflect on the ways in which their academic and practical work relate to and inform each other. Student are encouraged to undertake industry work experience. We have a strong focus on employability and we work closely with experts from the media and creative industries to offer our students current perspectives on the jobs market.

Our students undertake hands-on training on industry standard equipment for media practice work. They are supported by full time staff and guest tutors from industry in our extensive facilities, which include a newsroom, editorial and radio presentation and production suites and a TV studio and gallery.

Our students have the opportunity to undertake a period of study abroad through international exchange programmes. Up to one in five of our students have studied for a period with our partner institutions across Europe, North America and Australia.
