Beschreibung des Programms

The Mechatronics course offers practical and application-oriented academic training in the field of engineering as a presence - or part-time distance learning with a Bachelor of Engineering degree .

The standard period of study in distance learning with Saturday lectures at many nationwide study centers of DIPLOMA is 7 semesters. Attendance at the Bad Sooden-Allendorf location is possible in 6 semesters.

As a variant of distance learning, DIPLOMA also enables interactive online lectures via the Internet. The exams of the mechatronics course continue to take place at the nationwide study centers of DIPLOMA. As a part-time course, this distance learning option offers even greater independence from location and even better compatibility of studies and work, since travel times and travel expenses are eliminated.

Studied mechatronics

The bachelor's degree in mechatronics offers practical and application-oriented engineering studies on a scientific basis. A balanced mix of theory and practical tasks, basics and special subjects, specialist knowledge and interdisciplinary knowledge forms an ideal starting point for starting your career.

By choosing one of the three core compulsory fields of automotive systems, robotics or electromobility , individual and labor market-related differentiation and specialization is possible within the course.

Occupational fields of mechatronics

The successful bachelor's degree in mechatronics opens up a wide range of professional fields of activity for graduates. Mechatronics engineers are employed in the automotive and aviation industries, in mechanical and plant engineering, in electrical engineering and in robotics. Here, graduates perform leading and supporting tasks in the development and construction of mechatronic systems, develop software for technical devices and components and supervise purchasing, maintenance and commissioning of complex systems in manufacturing and process automation.

Normal period

Distance learning: 7 semesters / 180 ECTS

The actual study period can be extended free of charge for up to 4 semesters over the standard period of study.

baseline

With sufficient number of participants in the winter semester (October) and summer semester (April).

accreditation

Accreditation of the course by the accreditation agency AQAS eV

tuition fee

Distance learning: € 257.00 / month (total € 11,459.00 plus one-time examination fee of € 665.00)

study form

Attendance study or distance learning. The distance learning course takes place alternating between self-study with study books and full-day Saturday seminars (about 12 Saturdays per semester) at one of our numerous nationwide study centers or online in the "virtual lecture hall" of the DIPLOMA Online Campus.

admission requirements

General university entrance qualification, Fachhochschulreife, passed master's examination or according to the regulation on access to higher education in the state of Hesse, ie either completion of a career development training of at least 400 hours, a technical school or a vocational or administrative academy or final examination in a state-recognized training occupation followed by at least 2 years of employment and a separate university entrance examination.

For further information on special qualifications, please contact DIPLOMA Hochschule. Applicants who do not meet the requirements mentioned above may initially attend the course as guest auditors if the access authorization is within a max. 2 semesters is achieved.

For foreign degrees, equivalence for admission must be demonstrated.

degrees

Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)

Graduates receive a bachelor's degree and diploma as well as a Diploma Supplement written in English and a transcript of records, which identify them internationally as academics with a bachelor's degree.

Training process

The bachelor's degree course "Mechatronics" is offered in two variants, as face-to-face study in Bad Sooden-Allendorf or as distance learning with presence phases at different study centers in Germany. The attendance phases in distance learning take place on Saturdays and consist of voluntary exercise and seminar events (laboratories, simulations, experiments, programming exercises, theory, etc.). A total of 8 laboratory days are mandatory for all students, which take place as block events in the central mechatronics laboratory in Bad Sooden-Allendorf (with practical experiments and applications in the areas of robotics and automotive systems). Didactically prepared study letters, a telephone hotline and a supervised e-learning learning platform with virtual laboratories, simulations, exercises, task collections and literature are available for the self-study phases. The individual study centers also offer other childcare options.

applications

The successful bachelor's degree in mechatronics exposes graduates to a broad and interesting field of activity. Mechatronics engineers are employed in the areas of mechanical and plant engineering, electrical engineering and electronics, the automotive and aviation industries, automation technology, robotics, microsystem and precision engineering, medical technology, media technology, etc. - including the associated supplier companies. The individual jobs of bachelor and master graduates in mechatronics are:

  • leading and supporting tasks in the development and construction of mechatronic systems
  • Modeling and simulation of mechatronic, electronic and mechanical components and systems
  • Development of software for technical devices and components
  • Development, production and testing of electronic and mechatronic devices
  • quality assurance
  • Purchasing, maintenance and commissioning of complex systems in manufacturing and process automation
  • Marketing, sales and training of technical products and systems
  • Coordinating activities and project management in management
  • Management tasks where interdisciplinary competence is required
  • Consulting activities in industrial and service companies

Major fields of study

robotics

The elective focus on robotics in the Mechatronics course (B.Eng.) Consists of the two modules

Robotics and programming Tool design for robots

In the "Robot technology and programming" module, in-depth knowledge of robot classification, coordinate systems in the work area, control concepts, programming concepts (teach-in, play-back, offline, simulation) is imparted taking into account standards, regulations and security mechanisms. The focus is on operational preparation, commissioning, programming and targeted troubleshooting with appropriate test tools. The goal is to select, program and optimize robots according to the specific requirements of the system.

The module "Tool conception for robots" provides in-depth knowledge of the parameters and special features of tool concepts and tools for robot use as well as various options for the use of individual and complex robotics solutions. The focus is on automatic tool changing systems. The aim is to plan manufacturing processes and workflows from the point of view of optimal robot utilization and to design individual tools, such as gripper systems, from the point of view of production technology.

Automotive systems

The elective focus on automotive systems in the Mechatronics course (B.Eng.) Consists of the two modules

  • Automotive electronics
  • Factory simulation

The "Automotive Electronics" module provides in-depth knowledge of the structure, use and diagnosis of function modules and complex systems within a vehicle electrical system. The focus is on methods such as FMEA analysis. The aim of the module is to understand electronic function modules, to analyze, to implement and to optimize interlinking of electronic function modules. The following content is taught in detail:

Basics of automotive electronics and electronics Basics of electronic systems in motor vehicles Selected electronic systems (function, implementation) FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) of electronic systems in vehicles

The module "Factory Simulation" provides in-depth knowledge of model building and exemplary implementation of a factory simulation as advance planning for real production facilities. The aim of the module is to plan production using simulations and to optimize existing production facilities using simulation. The following content is taught in detail:

Basics of simulation Factory simulation Realization of the simulation using the example of automotive suppliers Comparison of a simulated with a real system

Electromobility

The elective focus on electromobility deals with the technical implementation of e-mobiles and their sustainable use.

Therefore, it includes the two modules

  • Concept of electric vehicles
  • Sustainability and corporate management of integrated energy supply

In the electric vehicle design module, the focus is on the design of electric (or hybrid) powered vehicles. This includes the range analysis under the current battery technology, lightweight construction, vehicle systems and drive systems. In addition, balancing the design of the vehicles is also of great importance with regard to the usage profiles.

In the module sustainability and corporate management of integrated energy supply, the cycle of effects in energy management is of central importance. The goal of sustainability can only be implemented if it is possible to achieve greater efficiency in electromobility than with conventional drive systems, including renewable energies. This module uses case studies to show which methods and potential are possible.
