Beschreibung des Programms

The Tourism Management degree program is a Bachelor's degree program focused on management competences, which provides a first academic qualification for middle and upper management in the international tourism industry. For professionals, the DIPLOMA offers the degree program Tourism Management as distance learning in two variants: as virtual distance learning with virtual online lectures and exams on Saturdays at nationwide examination centers or alternatively as part-time study with real attendance phases Saturdays at the study centers Kassel or Munich. In addition to distance learning tourism management is also offered as a full-time attendance study at the main site of the college in Bad Sooden-Allendorf.

Tourism management as distance learning

The standard period of study is 7 semesters in a distance learning course and can be extended by up to 4 semesters without a tuition fee. In distance learning, there is a change between self-study with study programs and full-day Saturday seminars (about 12-14 Saturdays per semester) in one of our study and examination centers in Kassel or Munich online in the "virtual lecture hall" of the DIPLOMA Online Campus.

In addition to the distance learning with face-to-face attendance phases, especially the spatially flexible online distance learning offers ideal conditions for an extra-occupational study . Following the concept of "blended learning" you will study in small groups live in the virtual lecture hall of an online-based learning platform. With a stable internet connection, you can study from everywhere with us!

Focus on Tourism Studies

The program provides a broad and integrated understanding of economics in general and tourism management in particular - this is the core content of the degree program in various areas such as destination and event management, sports and health tourism or business travel management.

The aim is to gain a critical understanding of the most important theories, principles and methods of tourism and tourism-related business management. The imparting of solid knowledge and skills in the area of information technologies , foreign languages (English as well as Spanish or Chinese) and the acquisition of intercultural competences are in addition to the analysis of sustainable travel and mobility concepts in the focus of this course.

At an early stage, key competences are trained, for example, in the form of communicative competencies, which play an important role in the course of studies and beyond. An excellent support ratio for small group sizes offers ideal conditions for active, reflective and self-critical work. In presentations and discussions, the students gain experience of the consequences of a particular appearance and behavior, how to deal with constructive criticism, and how to arrive at a goal-oriented finding of results.

The courses of the course, which are project-oriented, provide real links to the economic, social and cultural enterprises of the tourism industry. Numerous practical projects are an integral part of lectures in the special tourism industry as well as general business administration and business management, globalization, marketing, travel law, project and time management. Building on these foundations, students can choose between the three main areas of study : "Destination and Event Management", "Sport and Health Tourism" and "Business Travel Management" .

International orientation and career prospects

The international orientation of the program is particularly promoted by globally oriented modules, practical projects and excursions. In a 14-week internship or internship , which students mostly complete with companies, institutions or NGOs abroad, they gain further professional experience.

The bachelor's degree program prepares students for professional activities in middle management or as junior managers in medium-sized tourism companies as well as in market-leading and globally operating tourism groups. This results in excellent career opportunities and fast promotion opportunities for graduates worldwide . For example, with senior functions in the lower and middle management in the areas of hotel industry, gastronomy, tour operators, Internet travel portals, airline and airport companies, ferry companies, bus companies, cruise lines, car rental brokers, tourism organizations, event agencies, trade fair partners, sports operators, health clinics and Spa management, health and wellness tourism and market research.

With the successful completion of the tourism management study, 180 ECTS are achieved, an optimal prerequisite for a subsequent Master's degree program, for example the consecutive Master of Arts (MA) in Economics and Law - Main focus Management or the Weiterbildungsmaster MBA at the DIPLOMA.
