The ECET department serves as a home for four BS degree programs which include, Electronics Engineering Technology , Computer Engineering Technology , Automation and Control Engineering Technology and Information Technology . Each of these programs allows our graduates to enter the job market with specific skill sets, allowing them to launch their careers in well-paid entry-level job positions. The breadth of study in these degree programs allows our graduates to relatively quickly move into positions of responsibility in fields such as design, testing, manufacturing, system integration, maintenance, production support, customer support and business systems support.
Automation and Control Engineering Technology (A.C.E.T.)
Industrial automation is the use of control systems, predominately computer-based, to control industrial machinery and processes. Automation has and will continue to play an increasingly important role in the global economy as well as our daily experiences. The automation and control engineering technology program provides the knowledge and management skills needed to pursue a rewarding career in the field of automation.

Typical job positions include: automation engineer, controls engineer, production engineer, project engineer, manufacturing engineer, quality engineer and maintenance engineer. With experience you will advance to managerial positions such as: team leader, supervisor, project manager, maintenance manager and technical manager. With extended experience, automation professionals have the background to move into upper level management roles that exist in business and industry.

Computer Engineering Technology (C.E.T.)

The computer engineering technology program learning outcomes are developed to fulfill program educational objectives, encompass the Technology Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. general criteria, and address specific criteria for a computer engineering technology program. I.S.U.’s Electronics Engineering Technology major optimizes the practical learning experience to clarify and support the theoretical design of electrical and electronic circuits, components, and systems. Use of modern design techniques, computer modeling, state-of-the-art laboratory experiences, and small learner-oriented classes help each student reach their fullest potential.
Program Description
The Electronics Engineering Technology program at Indiana State University is a model of experiential learning. Classes are structured to provide a maximum of hands-on laboratory-based experience for the learner from their very first introductory course through the final completion of the program of study. This serves to prepare the graduate for immediate application based positions in the "real world." Both a practitioner’s and a theorist’s degree, the program provides technical and managerial skills. Among technical subjects studied are electronics, circuit analysis, electronic devices and instrumentation design, industrial electronic pulse circuits, and programmable logic controllers. Managerial study in computer systems management, industrial organization, and industrial supervision is combined with technical competence to create a program of quality and diversity.

This major provides students with a real world, hands-on program that bridges the gap between computer scientists and general users. The Information Technology Program is multidisciplinary involving hardware, software and IT management focused courses. The information technology major requires a core curriculum of 36 hours of coursework in computer science, electronics and computer technology, and management information systems. Students also complete a 15-hour specialized track developed in conjunction with a faculty advisor. An internship is highly encouraged. Students majoring in information technology will be prepared for entry-level positions in networking, database development and administration, web programming and development, applications development, digital communication, and digital multimedia.
