Become a sought-after specialist and manager who acts with a holistic analytical view and great economic skill. Use the opportunity that this brand new first offer in the AKAD social department opens up for you to plan your career in the field of social work! AKAD University expands its expertise in the field of health and social affairs in addition to business, technology and communication and offers you all the advantages of an experienced distance learning institution.
What does social work actually mean?
Social work means providing support where people are no longer able to participate in normal social life on their own. Social workers are a guarantee that ways of inclusion and reintegration are always found for people and that nobody has to give up. All of this has high requirements, but can be taught and, above all, learned. In this way you will get to know and use tools that will prepare you pedagogically, psychologically, scientifically and sociologically for future challenges.
What skills will you acquire during your studies?
You will learn the important scientific foundations of social work in theories, methods and principles and apply these to social, organizational and professional theory. You make valuable contributions to working in a team through action concepts, guidelines and methods that you justify scientifically with confidence. Your social / psychosocial / biopsychosocial knowledge of interfaces, concepts and key questions in the overall field of social work makes you a valued discussion partner and productive service provider, also in related fields such as social management. You are able to independently plan, design, control, reflect and evaluate your own activities and related projects.
Are you also trained for managerial tasks?
Since you are able to define, reflect on and evaluate goals for learning, work and support processes, you are ideally qualified for managerial tasks in teams of experts, in groups or organizations as well as in public administration. You creatively solve complex tasks of project management, overall management and guidance of teams and groups and help with the design and implementation of plans and concepts in collegial contexts. You ensure the socio-professional performance of specialist, advisory and support tasks in the sense of the triple mandate and thus confidently take on cross-disciplinary and cross-functional projects. You will work professionally in socio-political, economic, educational and health policy, (social) legal and economic contexts of social work.
What perspectives do you have on the basis of the course structure?
Social workers are often exposed to situations in which they cannot get anywhere with personal commitment alone. Then only dialogue helps. This is therefore addressed in dialogue-oriented modules of the course in which the students meet and exchange ideas in the truest sense of the word.
With the specializations of the course you can dive into almost every branch of social work: In child, family and youth welfare, a job is almost secure given the need for qualified specialists. The modules “Social work - rethinking!” And “Digitization and digital media in social work” are particularly interesting for future managers. These specializations are ultimately relevant for pretty much every area of social work, as they reflect the technical and economic considerations that social work will face in the near future.
Is there also an internship semester in this course?
In the practical project of the fourth semester, you will complete an internship for 100 days in an institution in which you will get to know the field of social work in detail. You will be closely accompanied and looked after by the university before, during and after your stay. Our advisory team will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the practical project phase.
We at AKAD have put an infinite amount of enthusiasm and commitment into our new area of health and social affairs. Let's tackle it together so that you, as a state-recognized social pedagogue and social worker, can make a little better in the future.
