With many companies responding to the acceleration of globalization by expanding their businesses to countries in Asia, the U.S., and Europe, there are many great opportunities in the world today for people with an international perspective and strong communication skills. The Faculty offers a unique education designed to cultivate internationally competitive people through its Department of English Studies and Department of Global Liberal Arts. The Department of English Studies aims to help students develop the kind of English skills immediately useful to new working members of society by guiding them through their studies toward their future careers with the following three courses available from the second year of study: Language Studies, Business, and Education. The Department of Global Liberal Arts aims to help students systematically develop their interests into expertise by offering the following three courses of American Studies, Japan and Asian Studies, and European Studies, each of which also comprises three specialized research areas. The Faculty also offers practical learning opportunities through not only a rich variety of study abroad programs but also opportunities to conduct fieldwork internationally in six countries or regions across the U.S., Asia, and Europe. With the world becoming increasingly interrelated both socially and economically, the Faculty’s educational environment shines with significance as one characteristic of an international culture university, as stated in the Aichi University Prospectus as one of the University’s aims. The Faculty looks forward to helping more people develop excellent communication skills, broaden their horizons, and lead productive lives worldwide due to its diverse education, something only possible through a comprehensive university.
Aichi University was established in 1946. Its prospectus sets forth that the mission of the university is to be instrumental in “the rise of a Japanese civilization that can contribute to world peace as well as the development of talented individuals,” and that the university has its special missions, which include 1) to contribute to the development of regional academic, cultural and economic development and 2) to train individuals with global knowledge and perspectives. It can be said that this founding philosophy assumes even greater significance in this present age, which calls for the development and revitalization of local communities, amid the increasing globalization of the international community.
